Inneralpbach is a perfect little ski village. It has kept its original building style, unlike French and Swiss ski resorts that we have seen. Our apartment had everything that we could wish for and all in excellent working order. The 'Visitor Card' was very useful and we were able to go up both the local gondola lifts free of charge when using it. Walking trails suit all levels of fitness from easy to slightly 'sub-Everest'. Claire, you have proved to be a wonderful and most helpful host. Thank you for everything. PS The Zirmalm Restaurant may go broke now that we have left! Ate there every night and food excellent.

You were right Claire, 4 days is not enough time to do this area justice. However what a great 4 days we have had. We have climbed mountains, explored gorges, visited waterfalls and even swam in the lake in Reith. The view from Haus Hislop is very special and our highlight of the holiday has been having breakfast on the terrace. We can only imagine how beautiful this place must be in the winter, and if we get the chance will come back to sample the skiing. Hope you have a busy summer season and you get plenty of snow for the winter. PS We also agree with the previous comments. The Zirmalm is a great little resturant - good value, friendly staff and only 2 mins away.

Dearest frau Claire. Where to begin? We finally paid a visit to my oldest, dearest friend Claire, to be greeted by her wearing full traditional Tyrolean dress, with a shot of Schnapps (and iced tea for the boys...) What a welcome to your wonderful empire! We simply love Haus Hislop, and for what you have created. We were lucky enough to experience a week in the Penthouse, which was just awesome. We have loved exploring the beautiful Alpbachtal and surrounding areas, and have made full use of our 'Seenland Cards'. It has been wonderful to have so much time with you, and it's great that you've really had the chance to get to know your Godson Freddie and his younger brother Toby. (Who I'm sure will forever remember this many iced tea 'prosts' with you.) Thank-you for giving us a holiday to remember, for having the courage and vision to realize your dream. I am in awe of what you have created and look forward to our next visit and for the next jobs list! With love and admiration. Sally xx

Claire - We had the most superb time earing our keep. We love your empire and have been inspired by your drive and dedication. We hope our DIY efforts last and the experience be put to good use when you come to visit us in our home. Thanks for you extraordinary generosity and hospitality. We've loved it and will be very sad to go. Dan.

It was grate in the cable car. Toby Barter.

I loved it in the slide at the water park. Dear Claire lovely to see you godmother. From Freddie.

Two weeks at Haus Hislop - two weeks of absolute bliss! The views are breath-taking, the accommodation very comfortable and, with the Seenland Card so much to do but, without doubt, what made our visit so special was you, Claire. Your warmth, hospitality and cheerfulness, coupled with your generosity in letting us use the penthouse suit. Made our holiday a wonderful and memorable occasion. We love the beautiful Alpbachtal area and will definitely come again and the memory of what you have achieved in creating Haus Hislop haven of holiday happiness will remain with us for a long time. Well done and keep up the good work. Neil

I've had the time of my life...... I think there is a song title in somewhere, which expresses my sentiments exactly!

We have completely fallen in love with Austria, Alpbachtal and Haus Hislop in particular, and the memory of breakfast every morning overlooking the Gratlspitz will stay with us for a very long time. Claire, your indomitable ?? zest for life and warm and hospitable nature are an inspiration to all who know you - keep up the fantastic dream! I will leave Austria with a heavy heart and also content with having discovered a magic holiday destination, but more importantly a wonderful new friend. We look forward to receiving the first chapter .......!!!

"Claire" !! what can we say and where do we start. You truly are the jewel of Inneralpbach always shining bright with such joy & enthusiasm. Well before we arrived and through communications via e mail we knewthat everything would go smoothly and was planned when we arrived. Excitement filled my heart when we saw your beautiful home which we have been privileged to havespent some quality time in, especially in the evening after completing walks, i.e. Gratlspitz and many others, not forgetting the fantastic horse riding on the pretty Halflinger ponies, and what a delight it was seeing their foals. Kundl Gorge was a must, a lunch in Reith & Rattenberg was like going back intime. It's been so nice to stay in somewhere which is so clean, and comfortable, home from home.Thank you for the offer for booking us a restaurant. We ended up in the Hotel Wiedersbergerhorn, the "venison" is a must and so is the Big John Austrian Red Wine, which I have been trying to buy online. "Recycling" Claire deserves a gold medal, this award goes to you. Who else could make the earth any greener. Made me feel bad about using the dishwasher. "Geraniums" Enjoyed looking after your balcony boxes, made me feel like Alan Titchmarsh. So once again, it was lovely to meet you. I am sure British Airways would offer you a job as "the hostess with mostess" !!! Hope to see you in the winter. All our love.

We first heard about House Hislop a couple of days before we were planning on travelling to Austria and thankfully we could come and stay here in flat 3. This is actually our honeymoon since we got married on the 28th of June and we are so pleased to come here to spend our special time in Inneralpbach.Thank you Claire for being so service minded and for accepting us even though we booked so late. We will spread the word about HouseHislop to ourfriends, families and workmates.Best wishes for you for the future here in Austria!

Dear Claire,We greatly enjoyed and appreciated our week at Haus Hislop. The combination of the beautiful scenery and your warm, relaxed and open hospitality in first rate accommodation has made for a memorable time. You have created a unique environment which not only provides for physical needs, but offers an opportunity for reflection and spiritual nourishment. We have been with our bodies, minds and spirits very much refreshed andgladdened by the experience of our stay at Inneralpbach.

Dear Claire. We have been coming to the many valleys of the Tyrol 'unsere zucite Heimat' for many years now. This is the first time we have been back to Alpbachtal since our original visit 20 years ago. The valley is as beautiful as ever, equally as lovely as the Yorkshire Dales and what higher praise canone give than that?

Thanks for making us so welcome at House Hislop and looking after us so well. We've had a great week.

All the bestfor your future success in 'living the dream'.

What a beautiful place! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and made the most of our short time here. We've loved the walks we've been on and all the lovely meals we've had. Really appreciated the beautiful, clear apartment and thank you for the excellent information you sent before we came.

Where to begin? We have had a fab holiday, a great welcome & friendship from Claire. the odd drop of Vodka, beautiful scenery & wonderful accommodation. Too much apple strudel, four times at the pool,1 million times down the slide and several visits to Lauserland, not to mention climbing to the top of "that tall mountain up there!" and walking along the gorge. Definitely plenty to do, come rain, shine or thunderstorms, all of which we experienced!!

We will be back...not sure when, could be winter, could be summer, could just be for computer support!!

Nice meeting you Claire, will await the first I.T. support e-mail (laugh out loud) and will bribe you with many photos that you want us to delete.

#Hope this is co-herent - too much vodka & schnapps.

Lucas has left you his stick ... you don't know how big a compliment that is. (Drawn smiley face) Tschuss.

The pros and cons of a holiday at Haus Hislop (Drawn smiley face)24/7/2010

Pros: Scrappy the rescue dog was allowed to stay with us rather than going to another shelter ....Scrappy loves Claire.Easy to book, great feedback to our initial queries. Clairedidn't know us fromAdam, but was always so open and trustworthy. Fresh bread rolls andDanish pastries delivered to the door. A fantastic apartment with free internet access, incredible views of the valley. A lovely bathroom with a superb shower. Great kitchen. A two minute walk to restaurants. Lovely hiking and mountainbikingtrails right outside the door. Very friendly locals. The book exchange. Claire checking to see if we were happy. Total relaxation (if you can call 10 km walking relaxation) The banter with Claire and other guests. Celebrating our silver wedding in peace.

Cons: Having to do Claire's ironing and brew making. Having to leave after the best fortnight we've had during 25 years of marriage. (2 drawn figures & a dog with mountains) Mark and Karen Harris aged 46 and 47. Thanks for a lovely holiday, Claire, you are one in a million. XXX

We have really enjoyed our stay in the 'Penthouse'. It was prefect for a teenage family, lots of space, great facilities and of course the amazing view!

Thanks for all your help, the week has really flown by and we wish we were staying longer!

A week we will never forget! After a really warm welcome we had a smashing time (but we won't reflect on that)!

Thanks for all the information before we came and all the help and friendly chat while we were here. Haus Hislop is in a beautiful position with lovely views and excellent facilities.

We wish we could stay longer!

Many thanks for the past couple of weeks. Perfect apartment and location. As we were out all day we didn't get to chat too much even though we are both from, "God's Country" (Yorkshire). Weather was grim but it doesn't bother us as we always had something to do even if it means a drive to get away fromthe weather. Recommend the Zirmalm and the hotel in the village (great goulash). I will leave it to her to mention all the places we visited - bothnear and far. Good luck to the future.

Hello Claire & everybody else reading this! We've been to LOADS of places here, Munich isn't far and is a great visit for a good steak or something different! Imbisses are really good for a snack, or for me, a whole meal, (Curry wurst is the best!) We also visited ZELL AM ZILLER which has abrilliant summer toboggan run at the Zillertal Arena, if you're 6 or 60 you WILL love it!!

For a longer trip visit the salt mines in Hallstatt on the other side of Salzburg, 2 massive wooden slides and one of them measures your speed. My Dad holds that particular tours record with 33.9 km/h. Beat it if you can!

The Swarovski Kristallwerk is very expensive (About€8, - per person and no reductions for children) but if you have an annoying kid with you it's absolutely wonderful, you don't go round the factory, but you do go through this "Art Gallery" with all the crystals being used in art, being a 14 year old "nerd" I found it rather interesting and shop is brilliant!!!

There's a mini golf in Kramsach, just follow the Minigolf signs (It's on the giantboard with 729 other irrelevant things onit and it's worth the money for a good competitive side to your holiday. (Why did the golfer take 2 pairs of trousers? In case he got a hole in one!)

Kerzenwelt in Kramsach, its just full of candles and is such a "coach-trip-genre" attraction. Go if you dare, but I'm sure you won't like it either!

Claire, you've been really good fun and I hope your "hotel" comes along a treat!

See you soon. Karl Longridge. Age 14. From Blyth, North East England, United Kingdom. I'm making small videos on YouTube of my stay in Austria and Haus Hislop on my you tube channel : 1905.

Dearest Claire. We have all had a fantastic holiday - loved every minute of it. You are such a nice person with a warm & friendly personality and we wish you continued success at Haus Hislop. You cannot fail to have a nice time here - if you don't, it's your own fault! You work so hard, but reading everyone's comments about you isa true reflection of the type of person you are. Wish we could have had a few more drinks together - but definitely next time!!

I enjoyed the motor boat on Lake Achensee - for only 17 euros for an hour it was a bargain but very nice - scenery was breathtaking. Two weeks here is still not long enough - maybe two months would suffice.

Will think of you back home and take our holiday memories in our hearts.

Thanks for all your kindness. Linda LongridgeXX

P.S. Think Karl will remember his first experience of drinking schnapps - it was fun.

DearClaire. A wonderful stay in Alpbach, walking, eating and drinking. Claire was a great host, getting our breakfasts bits and sorting anything we needed.

The Haus Hislop felt very homely and happy, this was our first stay here, but we will be back next year. Thank you for everything Claire, Love.
Laura and Paul Downey. Surbiton. England. 18.08.10 - 21.08.11

Dear Claire. We have had so much fun staying there. Claire has been the most amazing host (and is now part of the family). She was so helpful before we came and nothing was too much trouble her her to do or help us. When we arrivedshe had bought us a few grocery itemsin case we needed them - didn't arrive till 8 pm! She works very hard to make Haus Hislop a friendly, homely place and there isno end to her talents! We had many fun evenings playing the 'box' gameand drinking 80% rum! To build on a dream and make a success of it takes a lot of courage and hard work which she has achieved. The Haus Hislop is a lovely place in an amazing setting and is very comfortable.

There is so much to do in the area - mountain walking and rides in gondolas. The single person chair liftis an amazing experience and the walk to the lake. We also travelled to the Grosslockner mountain pass which was brilliant. Visiting the Krimml Waterfall was also a lot of climbing, but the views were tremendous. We had a lovely meal at the Zirmalm Restaurant, with local music and nice to just walk up the road. Rattenberg is a lovely ancient village to walk around.

We have enjoyed everything about staying here - soaking up the mountain sights and air. Even just sitting for morning coffee and rolls on thebalcony. We feel so at home here - we do not want to leave!

Thank you very much Claire for making our holiday so enjoyable and see you again soon! Love

Third visit.

Thank you Claire fromall the Buchanan family - including our new addition Annie - for being such a superb host. Haus Hislop is divine, leaving all who stay here with batteries recharged and a zest for life. You are doing brilliantly. The house is spotless and the guests happy. The penthouse is awesome. We really enjoyed our meal with you and today we all climbed up the Wiedersbergerhorn. Hoping to return again soon. Look after the view for us.

Lots of love

APPENDIX. Congratulations to Frank Hislop, Claire'stwin brother, who summitted Mont Blanc last month (July 2010). Once again the Yorkshire boys punch above their weight and triumph. A stay at Haus Hislop and the Grosslockner next ....

As you can see drawing is not my strong point, but having tons of fun is & we've had SO much fun! It's an outdoor paradise here, made all the better coming back to Haus Hislop & your brilliant hospitality. So inspiring that you've followed your dream & made this such a wonderful place to visit. Mountains, tubing, cycling, skinny dipping in lakes, whizzing up cable cars, then an evening at Haus Hislop has been PERFECT (unlike my drawing. It's supposed to be a mountain of course!)

Liebe Claire. This is our 6th visit to Austria & our second visit to Alpbach, but our 1st visit to Inner Alpbach & Haus Hislop, which has exceeded all our expectations. We first came to Austria (as a couple) in 1973. When we came this year we visited places we first came to in '73 & we've seen lots of changes - but Austria's & the Tirol's heart is the same, - & we love it just as much now as we did then. (Even the weather). Claire you are a gem & as we say in the North East of England - you're a canny lass!!! (Which actually is a great compliment). We hope we can back to Haus Hislop before we get "past it," and you carry on living "the dream." Thanks for everything.

Mum and Dad here, Claire, so take notice! Reading back in this book you seem to be doing very well. Smashing, and we are proud of what you have achieved! So keep on as you are. We have been here for another wonderful week (except the 2 days we were away at the Passionspiele at Oberammergau). We have had a great time here with your Uncle Patrick and Aunty Carol. Everyday has been a great success. Thank you for all your help and thank you for being our wonderful daughter!

Take notice of thebuilding problems highlighted byUncle Patrick- could save you thousands in the future! Look after Haus Hislop - it is your only major asset!

We always look forward to seeing you, here or inEngland if you can, whenever find the time to come home again. Remember you are a Yorkshire lass and above all you are a Hislop!

Claire. It is hard to put into words how much of an incredible place Haus Hislop is! The apartments, the views, the weather, all of it spectacular. Personally, I have had abrilliant week and I must say a massive thank you to you Claire for making it so brilliant. Your hospitality, humour & poker skills have all helped make this holiday so great! I will be extremely sad to leave, but hope to return sooner rather than later, hopefully with Josh in tow and you can teach us both how to ski! I feel extremely privileged to be writing the last entry into your second guest book, hopefully your new one will be filled with many more wonderful comments. Thank you for the drunken evenings, the apartment, for listening and just being a great person, hopefully we can stay in touch.
Best wishes for the future. Martin Lynch, Kent and SheffieldEngland X 9.10.10 - 16.10.10

Visit number four was excellent in every way as were all our previous visits. Austria is a beautiful country. Inneralpbach is one of its most attractive parts and Haus Hislop, without doubt, the best place to stay.

During this visit the signage on the house and apartments was expertly completed by the talented Claire. Take a look at the quality of the work. This time we also had the pleasure to meet Claire's Mum, Dad, Aunt and Uncle. Five for the price of one - now that's a bargain!

Thank you for another most enjoyable holiday. Our next visit in 201 is already booked and cannot come too soon.
Love as always, Keith and Peter. XXWest Midlands, England. 11.10.10 - 25.10.10

Dear Claire. Haus Hislop because it has a great view and is set in a wonderful place. You are a brilliant host and you are very kind. It was great to come for a second time. It is really fun in Austria. (It is my fav place in the world!) It was so cool because it snowed so I could go sledging. I don't want to leave!! I hope we come again!
Love from Kirsty Tucker. "I love Haus Hislop"

Dear Claire. We had a brilliant stay here in August and had many 'box games' with 80% rum! Whilst playing this game you said if we won we could stay for a week in the Penthouse in November. Well Kirsty won and we have enjoyed another amazing week in this wonderful part of Austria with an amazing hostess with the mostest again! In exchange for enjoying the lovely Penthouse Adrian painted the garage floor - it looks great! We went to Alpbach and enjoyed local music and had a fantastic evening with the neighbours cooking the localspeciality meal. We had the pleasure of meeting your parents and had some coffees & box games altogether. We went to Rattenberg and the Swarovski factory and shop. We were lucky to have lots of snow this week and enjoyed sledging and walking in the area.

Thank you very much, Claire, for inviting us again and for your great hospitality. We have had such a brilliant time that we do not want to leave. We will miss the fantastic view of the two mountains. Hopefully your business will grow as you spend so much time and effort in getting everything right for your guests. We hope to visit again in the not too distant future.

Oh Claire! What a labour of love you have here! Mum and Dad here - we have been here for another 8 days and enjoyed meeting the Tuckers. The work involved keeping H.H. in tip top condition is at times challenging! - but worth doing. We miss you loads at home in Haworth and can't wait for your/our next visit. I know you are very busy. Sorry I did not finish painting the garage walls - you said you would do it - I hope well. I will be back to inspect! You have such a gorgeous place here and have wonderful friends out here. What a privilege - and what a loss to Yorkshire! We love you loads, keep up the good work.

So from the "Woods"- Kevin, Ester, Kimberley, Brenton & Kennedy we want to say a big thank you & God bless for the future.

Lots and lots and lots of love from your loving niece, Lydia X X I love you loads

Thank you to my wonderful sister for another lovely holiday. We love the Penthouse, it's very spacious and comfortable. Hate the faff and palaverof actually getting us and 3 children up the mountain ready to ski. But it's worth it obviously. The only stress this year was both Andrew and I having ski accidents - I fell hard on my shoulder and Andrew twisted his knee. No skiing for us on the last day. Oh well, never mind. It was lovely to be here with our friends Jo, Mark, Eleanor and Isabel - we had a lot of laughs and it was nice for them to meet Claire. We hope to be back next year. We miss you so much in Yorkshire, we talk of you often. Let's keep phoning lots.I want the children to always know and love their Auntie Claire, even though you live many any miles away.

Weather was on whole really favourable & contrasting - but never boring. Extremely attentive hostess (I will remember our little chats) the whole experience was both relaxing and rewarding and we thank you so much for allowing us to spend the last 7 days in your house.

Claire. This is our third year in Alpbach and the best yet - so perhaps that's because we found Haus Hislop! We found the comfortable and well equipped apartment and of course the lovely views. Arn enjoyed being close to the slopes and lifts as he's the skier, and as for me there are so many great walks from the door (usually via the Postbus - to pick op a newspaper in Alpbach) Thank youfor your flexibility with our pre-holiday arrangements and all the information we needed and for your attention and interest while we were here.

Haus Hislop is a great venture, hope it goes from strength to strength - I'm sure we will be back. ooh & all the best for that Big Birthday! Hope it's a great day.

Inneralpbach is a little piece of paradise where you can enjoy so many things and de-stress. I have been coming here more than 20 years and live next door to Claire. She is my friend and neighbour. Claire's main ambition in life is tomake people happy. Nothing is too much trouble. It gives her great pleasure to give her guests the best holiday ever. Summer or winter, there's plenty to do if you want it and relaxing places where you can swim, read and sunbathe if you prefer. There aren't many places where you get so many options ofholiday activities. Skiing, swimming hiking, trekking mountain biking, sunbathing, volleyball, soft ball and sooo much more. Fantastic restaurants with fine cuisine at low prices. Highly recommend Zirmalm, Alpbacherhof and Hotel Post, Wiedersbergerhorn. Whatever you want, quiet dinner for two or family outing - just ask Claire. Her local knowledge is second to none. Pick her brains, she loves it. Alpbach is very traditional and its history very interesting. The lakes in the summer are especially relaxing way to spend long summer days or try some white water rafting. After 20 yearsI still get excited about coming here for its traditional views and spectacular beauty. I could go on writing but have a flight to catch. Sad to leave and excited about when I can come back. Enjoy it, love it and spread the word. There are no strangers here, only friends you have yet to meet. Oh and visit the brewery the owner is an interesting and really friendly guy. Wishing you all fantastic holidays in Inneralpbach.

GREAT VISIT - Every type of weather in one week, pentapartment just perfect - lots of space for spreading out. Long walks direct from the house and a tramp up and down theTiefenbach Gorge to be recommended. Tiroler Bauhöfer Museum well recommended - fascinating.

Dear Claire. Thank you so much for being so welcoming, accommodating and helpful. You made such a difference to our stay. You should and must be very proud of your achievement of Haus Hislop - yours is an inspiring story! This hasbeen a perfect week- greatR & R for Jon and recovery from A2 exams for Pippa& Jenny. Claire you are as gem and Haus Hislop reflects its owner. Your generous nature and kindness have made our stay a delight. Your advice on where to walk have been much appreciated. Apartment 4 is the most comfortable of the many apartments we have stayed in and the view from the balcony has to one of the best in the valley. The combination of you, Claire, and Haus Hislop has made this one the best that we have had. We are already excited by the ambition to come back in the winter to ski.

Dear Claire. Thankyou for you very warm welcome at Haus Hislop andor your continued and ready hospitality. We have enjoyedsome fantastic walks with such beautiful scenery. We have spent as much time admiring the mountain flowers and the magic of the mountains and doing our best to photograph them. We have appreciated the transport system too which has given us the opportunity to visit many of the recommended sites.

Our apartment has been so comfortable, a joy to return to after our lovely long days in the mountains. Claire, we wish you all the very best for Haus Hislop. You have created something very special here and we hope H.P.B. will appreciate it as much as we have done during these last two weeks. You are great fun to be with too!

Visit of Claire's Mum and Dad from Haworth, West Yorkshire, England.

Well Claire! We love Austria and we love you! but when we come all our friends say "Have a good holiday!" Do we have a holiday? - because you always find so many things for us to do to maintain Haus Hislop. We are proud to be part of its success - but you are its heart and soul. Well done. We go home tomorrow and will miss you loads! We have done quite a few touristy things and played tennis - great - and also jobs and jobs and jobs!

Can't wait to be back to see you (& hug you again!) We are your flesh and blood so we are in this too. Keep it up, you're doing great. I've just typed up this whole book and WOW! What tributes. We are so proud of these tributes. I am sure you will earn many more! We look forward to seeing the garden development on our next safari to Austria.

Lots of love, Dad

I've had lots of fun and laughs staying with you, our middle pixie! Meeting your guests has been a pleasure. One of the many highlights was playing tennis with you and Christoph, even though I, nearly always was on the losing side. Claire you have taught me a new culinary skill of making risotto. Can't wait to make it with our lovely grandchildren. We return home tomorrow, although apart, our hearts will always be entwined together.

Love and Kisses, Your Mum.
Jens and Andrea Hislop. Haworth, West Yorkshire, UK 12.06.11 - 20.06.11

Dear Claire. Our maiden visit to Austria and we land up at Haus Hislop. Thankyou Claire for your warm welcome and extended hospitality. The Penthouse apartment balcony offers spectacular views of the valley. A well-furnished one - it has everything to one's taste and needs. The recommendations by Claire about the nearby panoramic walks and treks are amazing. We had our little shopping experience at Rattenberg within he glass shops and open cafes which I've had the best apple strudel with vanilla cream...the best I've had in a long time. Travelling all the way from India to Austria and coming across such a welcoming person as you Claire, makes our trip memorable and worthwhile. Inneralpbach and its surroundings are a perfect for an artist's masterpiece. You can easily unwind yourself and de-stress in this environment. Our family had a wonderful time at 'Haus Hislop' and thankyou Claire for everything! Best wishes from all of us!
Praveen, Neelu, Niti, Shikha and Barat. New Delhi, India 18.06.11 - 22.06.11

After speaking on the phone we had a good idea what kind of welcome to expect. We were not disappointed! Claire cannot do enough to help and make you feel at home. She even had a cup of Yorkshire tea ready on our arrival. We were more than satisfied with our apartment. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen area is very well equipped and the views from the balcony were breath-taking. Other smaller things like coat hooks and coat hangers (plenty) were much appreciated. We had very mixed weather but were still able to do 2 full day walks. A word of warning! Easy in Austria is not quite the same as it is in England. We did not need to use the free bus service but the free lift passes are a real bonus. Because we felt so much at home we ate in most evenings (the wine is also much cheaper). We did have a meal up the road at the Zirmalm and we both liked what we saw and enjoyed what we ate. Clearly this has been a huge undertaking for Claire. All we can say Claire is well done! Haus Hislop does you great credit. Thank you for making our stay so memorable. PS Best of luck with the new garden!
Malcolm and Sue Scranage. UK 17.06.11 - 24.06.11

Had great relaxing holiday - many thanks for upgrading us to the penthouse - views wonderful. All apartments well-appointed and comfortable. Enjoyed walk to Alpbach, Tiefenbach gorge (take Claire's advice on where to start.) Kaiser gorge, Lake Reintal and Wiedersbergerhorn and local ones (actually Michael ran them!) Local restaurant good. Tourist card excellent value. Alpbach swimming pool good. So much to do - will have to come back again - love to see it in the snow. Many thanks Claire for your help and hospitality and hope many more people find Haus Hislop and lovely Inneralpbach.

Thankyou Claire for all your kindness and help before and during our two week holiday. Thankyou for the 'de-stressing' after the very interesting Segway tour! It certainly won't be the same tomorrow morning wakening up to no mountains! Loved the scenery, the accommodation and an all-round wonderful atmosphere at Haus Hislop. Can't wait to spread the word. With our very best wishes for the future.

Dear Claire. Thanks for an unforgettable stay in your house. What an impressive undertaking - well done. We felt immediately at home being welcomed here (even if by a Yorkshire lass) by someone who comes from not so many miles away from where we live. We've had lovely weather in a wonderful location. We've enjoyed using our passes for the gondola and for the local buses which provide an excellent service. It was especially welcome to find so many hangers in the wardrobe as I always bring too many cloths! We enjoyed the museum here in Inneralpbach and found it useful to have visited there before visiting the museum of farm houses in Kramsach as we able to understand more without being able to read German. Well done Claire, good luck for the future. Remember to ring us if you have time when you visit your parents. Hope the lawn grows well.

We've not wanted for anything - didn't even miss the television! We wish you all the very best for the future and hope we'll see you again. We might even enjoy a glass or two on your splendid lawn!

Thanks Claire for an unforgettable holiday. The warm Yorkshire welcome and the fantastic scenery backed up by a wide variety of activities close at hand! Mountain climbs, gorge walks, museums, Tyrolean evening and swimming all virtually on the doorstep. We hope your venue has the success it deserves - we'll certainly pass the word on! Best wishes
Barbara and Jamie Harrington - Tucker, UK 17.07.11-23.07.11

Dear Claire, thank you for a very memorable, fantastic stay at your beautiful, so well located house! We wish we could do this regularly, because the atmosphere makes you so relaxed and restful. Nature is awesome and filled us with a sense of beauty and peace. We've been very active, made walks of 6-8 hours every other day with 1000-1200m altitude differences. These two weeks have renewed our strength and given us a sense of physical well-being. To explore nature you hardly have to leave Inneralpbach! In every direction there are mountain tops and valleys to explore. They will take what you physically have to offer! Even running has been sheer pleasure for me here. We've combined all this with occasional pleasurable visits to Rattenberg, Wörgl (for shopping), Brandenberg and a few other places. But our strongest memories will be nature, physical exercise, incredible wanderings and you warm hearted hospitality!
Rinus and Joke Baljeu, Sweden 09.07.11-23.07.11

Dear Claire, we have had a lovely week here in the Penthouse. The accommodation has been great and a super valley. Highly recommend the Zirmalm as you suggested. Spent most of our time around the Alpbachtal but also ventured to Innsbruck on day. Rattenberg is a lovely village - didn't really have enough time to explore everything, we would have needed another week! Rory had a great time river rafting with Ozzi Sport (great photos!) Too much rain for tubing but also had great weather days. Calum went on a super guided hike which he really enjoyed. Thank you for all your help with organising and suggesting thinks. Hope you have a good summer and ski season and we hope to be back. All good wishes
Ewan, Joyce, Calum and Rory Neilson, Aberdeen 16.07.11-23.07.11

Dear Claire, you have a very successful formula with Haus Hislop. The apartment has everything one would wish for. Alpbachtal has to be one of the prettiest valleys in Austria. There are so many things to do and see - one week is not enough! You are an excellent hostess and I'm sure guests will keep coming back to enjoy your hospitality. We certainly hope to and will recommend HH to our friends.
Roger and Elaine Berkshire 23.07.11 - 30.07.11

Dear Claire, John and I have also had an enjoyable week and agree with everything said above. You have been very helpful with information and making a great success of your venture not everyone would want leave the city to live in this beautiful peaceful valley. We wish you every success with HPB and I am sure the quests will keep on coming - we will spread the word. Good luck for the future.
John and Mary Killey, Warickshire 23.07.11 - 30.07.11

What can we add? Where else does the property owner pop round on an evening to check you are having a good time? We enjoyed many of the things previously listed - walks up Wiedersbergerhorn and along Tiefenbach Klamm, a visit to Rattenberg and meals out locally. We leave feeling that there is much more to do and we would definitely choose Haus Hislop again. It has been a labour of love establishing this place - and it shows!
Amanda and Geoff Daniels, 30.07.11 - 03.08.11

Dear Claire what a wonderful week - our first visit to Haus Hislop and Inneralpbach and I'm sure it won't be our last! We have been made to feel so welcome and your sunny personality is a huge bonus. We have taken many of your tips and had very successful days out and two fantastic meals up the road. Best advice to new guests - do listen to Claire - you really will make the most of your stay. Selected highlights of our week include - the cable car rides with walks from the top (I particularly enjoyed the single chair lift). 3 gorge walks - all very different - Kundl, Tiefenbach gorge and Stans to St Georgenberg. Local walks around Inneralpbach and from here to Alpbach with lunch at restaurants opposite the church. So much to see and do. Thank you Claire for you kind hospitality and good luck with the garden.
Adek and Jeff Leucton, UK 30.07.11 - 06.08.11

Dear Claire thank you for a wonderful week. It is the best place to stay ever. I will tell all of Northumberland and all my friends, when I return home. Love Iona and Graeme and Sheena

We have had a fantastic action packed fortnight staying in your great accommodation.

In Alpbachtal, all these things were free..

1. Kolberhof cable car and a walk to the cross on the top of the Wiedersbergerhorn - great views, followed by the children playing in Lauserland.

2. Cable car in Reith - in the rain so we didn't see much..

3. Swimming in:

- Reintaler See (Kramsach) - also lovely 1hr walk around the lake. Had to pay for car parking, but access to swimming was free with the Seenland card.

- Reitersee (Reith) - again free with the card. The children particularly liked swimming out the to platform.

- Alpbach swimming pool - good on a rainy morning - it has one short flume.

4. Galtenberg hike 2424m using two free guide - meeting point 8.45 at the Hotel Wiedersbergerhorn in Inneralpbach. (Found in the weekly adventure programme supplied by Claire) Fantastic days hiking in 4hrs up to the top 3hrs down. We raced down with the guide to avoid the thunderstorm - unsuccessfully as Claire can vouch for because of the amount of washing she had to do!

5. Single man chair lift up to Berghaus Sonnwendjoch (behind Kramsach) - great views coming down, but don't forget to take warm clothing as it is chilly at the top and particularly sitting on the 2nd leg of the lift going up.

Other things we have done away from this valley and the Seenland card have included:

1. Tubing organised by sport Ossi's based at the bpttom of the single man chair lift. Really good fun bouncing along over the rocks.

2. Visited Rattenburg - a pretty little town with lots of glass gift shops.

3. Lots of things in the Zillertal valley (the next valley west):

- Fantastic off road cycle path that extends all the way from Strass (at the entrance to the valley) up to Mayerhofen. If you hire bikes from any of the train stations up this valley you can either return the bike to the station you picked it up from or leave them at any other station and get the train back to where you started.

- A must if you have children.. take them to the Arena Coaster in Zell am Ziller - this is a summer toboggan run and is freat fun!

- Lake and Schlitters - another lovely lake to swim in.

- A great indoor and outdoor swimming pool at Fügen. Lovely warm water, 2 flumes a whirl pool and lots of Jacuzzi bits to it.

- There is also another lovely outdoor swimming pool at Zell am Ziller (you will see all these things from the cycle path.

4. We also found another lovely cycle path around Achensee - bike hire from Maurach another beautiful lake - a bit bigger than the others around here.

5. And finally if you have teenage children you must go to Area 47. An outdoor swimming area that has a flume with a vertical drop, a canon firing you into the water, the spectacle of watching people ski jumping into the water. Check out the website. It was a drive of about 1hr 20mins and is at the entrance to Otztal valley West of Innsbruck.

6. Oops don't forget the gorge walk (1hr each away) - fab!

So thank you again Claire... We have had fun!
Helen, Steve, Jamie (11) and Luke (8), 30.07.11 - 13.08.11

Had a super fortnight at Haus Hislop. Claire makes you feel welcome right from the start and is always on hand to give advice, book restaurants and check that you are ok. The area is full of fantastic places to go and things to do. A little further afield there is the beautiful city of Salzburg and the incredible Krimml Falls - a must see! Thanks for a lovely holiday, even though you are as mad as a box of frogs, you certainly make it fun! All the best

Apartment was perfect, the town was perfect. The only things we would have changed is we would have added 2-3 days to our stay here! There are many things in the area that we would have liked to have done….but ran out of time. We hope to come back some day!

Haus Hislop gets 5 stars and a double thumbs up from us!
Cheers from Ben and Vicky! - 24.06.09 – 29.06.09

Thanks for the wonderful 4 days we had here in Alpbach and Haus Hislop! We did some nice hiking to the top of the Wiedersbergerhorn, enjoyed the “Dorffest” and just relaxed. It’s not often you meet people like “yon Claire”! You couldn’t feel yourself more welcomed. Now some words in Finish you may need: KITOS = thanks, OLE HYVA = you’re welcome, MITA KUULUU = how are you? Thanks once more, we had a wonderful time!
Camille, Mikael, Kaisu and Roy. Norway - 4/7 – 11/7 2009

Thank you Claire for suggesting the penthouse instead of the small apartment it has been a wonderful place to stay in and the view from the balcony is just amazing! During the week we have conquered 5 peaks the favorites were Rosskogel and Gratlspitz while Volddopper Spitz was challenging but a bit boring. We hope to come back here some day maybe to try the winter activities. Thanks again Claire for your hospitality even the bread finally came.
Matilda Agneta Ann-Sofi Dan Benny Shenya (bergbestiegerhund) SWEDEN

Dear Claire,
Well what can we add to all the comments made. You are a very welcoming host useful hints sent on the internet. Number 1 apartment was just right for us with lovely views. The house is very tastefully decorated and furnished. The kitchen has all one needs. The Alpbach valley is a really beautiful place pretty villages and fantastic views. A great place for a peaceful yet can be active holiday. We managed in our 5 days here to go up 2 ski lifts, views are great. Great to have that pass. We walked along the gorgeous Kaiser Gorge well worth a visit. Visited the heimat museum just behind Haus Hislop. Well worth a visit too really interesting to see how life was about 200 years ago. Cost E200 per person. Open Saturday Sunday Monday and Thursday 11 -4 pm. However the highlight was Saturday evening at Zirmalm where we enjoyed a lovely dinner with live local music from local musicians playing accordions harp and guitar. A great evening. Thank you Claire for making us feel at home here and we will certainly recommend Haus Hislop to our friends and family.
Stephen, Rita and Rob Adams. Reading, England - 13.07.09

Thanks for a lovely to weeks. Highlights at the week have been the castles at Neuschwanstein, Eagles Nest and of course the glacier at Großglockner. “Lake Achensee”, a lovely spot to cycle around. Thanks,

Dear Claire,
Thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay very much. We hope to be back soon.
The Wassermans from Israel – 21.07.09

We don’t want to leave! We’ve had two fantastic weeks in the penthouse apartment and are thoroughly sun burnt after some great weather. Highlights – England winning the second test against Australia (got to get those priorities right), rafting with sport Ossi, horse riding at Münster, walking all over the place (the hike round the Gratlspitz is highly recommended), riding the cable car up to the Hintertux glacier and then walking down (we’re not that stupid) – think that’s it. Oh, sorry, and taking the steam train form Jenbach up to Achensee and walking round the lake. Thing is, we’ve only scratched the surface so are going to have to come back! Claire has been fantastic with answers to all our questions and suggestions for even more stuff to do. All the best for the future and we wish you every success with Haus Hislop – you deserve it!! My favourite bit was the Kaiserbad water park at Ellmau, we went twice! (Bethany)

I’ll be waiting for your Tilly lady and then I will be back. Big Hug from Senorita! (First cat to visit Haus Hislop.) I might even bring Karina & Tore with me because they tell me that they have fallen in love with this place. I have been relaxing and sleeping in your lovely Haus Hislop while they have been hiking all over, stuffing themselves at Zirmalm (excellent restaurant) and enjoying Grüner Veltliner wines. A thousand thanks to the perfect landlady Claire!
Senorita, Karina & Tore from Dubai - 14.07.09-25.07.09

A fabulous location, wonderful house and great host. A great place to relax and get out and about from. The Alpbachtal/Seenland card is a gift – three super cable car/chair lifts to enjoy. Innsbruck is well worth a visit, and we went by train from Brixlegg which was so easy. However, if you have a car, then the absolute must is the Grossglockner. Described as one of THE great drives in the world. It fully lived up to its hype. The nature museum and the swarovski tower were simply magnificent. The Zirmalm restaurant up the road is really friendly and consistently good. Last but certainly not least Claire – A lovely host with a wicked sense of humour!
Keith and Jim Jeffrey. Perthshire, Scotland - 25.07.09

Lieve Claire (that’s a word worth while to know in Dutch!
I think you’re doing a great job creating this warm house in a superb place and for most you’re so relaxed! I love you for that!

You were a lovely host, the flat was great and the location and everything we hoped it would be. You having everything to accommodate our toddlers, stair gate, cot, bed rail etc. made our stay so much more relaxed. We have had a wonderful holiday and the warmth of your welcome is integral to that. Hope to see you soon,

Hey Claire, our Austrian fortnight with you in the Alpbach valley has been absolutely fabulous…
Thank you for all you have done to welcome us and share with us and make us feel like friends rather than visitors… we will be back! Here is our top ten of wonderful things to do in Tyrol! Lauserland and Juppi adventure playgrounds ( at the top of the Alpbach and Reith cable car lifts) Cycling down from the Wiedersbergerhorn (Dad and 8 ½ yr. old) J Boat across then cycling around Achensee Hot chocolate and cakes in Rattenberg Swimming lakes at Kramsach and Reith – 6 ½ yr. old learnt to dive J Beer, sausages and traditional music at Reith festival. Free cable car lifts! (with the tourist card) Wandering around Innsbruck and taking the cable train up the mountain. the very dramatic gorge walk at Brandenberg Tubing in the snow at the top of the Hintertux glacier in the Zillertal (whilst in T-shirt and sandals) Can we do a number 11 in our top ten? It would be Café Zirmalm at the top of your road… the meat fondue is out of this world!

What can a mother say about the achievement Claire and Francis have made in having the vision and ability to not only build Haus Hislop, but to make it into such an extraordinary and exceptional place to have a fantastic holiday. Their Father and I are immensely proud of them both and wish them continued success in this venture. Every time we visit we wish we could stay longer. Visiting Haus Hislop gives us immense pleasure. We can’t wait to return. Thank goodness we are only a phone call away and can speak and encourage you often.

Hey Claire, well what can I say? Thanks so much for making the last few days so relaxing, comfortable and such a laugh. I haven’t cried with laughter so much for a long time. I couldn’t find fault with my apartment and Haus Hislop if I tried. It really is a credit to you and all the constant hard work you do. It’s not a question of if I come back, but when, so please keep a room free for me! I’m just hoping this is the first entry in the guestbook quoting Larry Grayson? I just thought it needed to be added. “I was having a cup of tea and a piece of ginger cake and the phone rang, so I thought, “Who can it be?”, so I picked up and I said, “Hello” and it was my friend Everard, so erm…”
Thanks for everything and Merry Christmas.
T. (from up North) - 13.12.09-18.12.09

Dear Claire,
I cannot believe what took us so long to find such a beautiful place on earth! The mountains, the snow and the skiing are simply wonderful. And, with such a cosy and comfortable apartment (flat 3), it made our holiday a perfect one. Thank you Claire, for your hospitality and being such a wonderful hostess. Well done with Haus Hislop. We will definitely recommend to family and friends. And, we will be back too! This place is simply unforgettable!

Dear Claire,
It has all been wonderful (if we draw a veil are my failing miserably at ski school!) and you have created a very special place here. Apartment 3 was just ideal for us and you were absolutely right about the views, beyond beautiful and I wish I could bottle it and take it back to London tomorrow. Haus Hislop is such a lovely experience which of course is down to you, your hard wok, attention and detail, and your very welcoming personality. We really hope to come back, the children want us to promise to come again every year, so we’ll see!
Happy New Year, hope 2010 is a great success here.

Dear Claire,
This is your father writing now – so take note! I just can’t believe how great the project is and what you have got us all into! What folk write in this (&previous) books is just eye watering! We are so proud to read the evidence of something you are doing right. Yu now have far more friends all over the world than we have. All your guests we have met are lovely folk. We can only come for an odd week here and there in the year, and of course we miss you so much at home – but you do have a lot of hands on hard work here. Go for it Claire, we’re always behind you. Keep up the good family name! Can’t wait to see you again soon!
Lot of love,

Love, your mum xxx 26.12.09-2.01.10

Thanks Claire for another momentous stay the highlight was seeing the fireworks from the whole Alpbach valley on New Years Eve. Haus Hislop what a vantage point to witness this.
Francis Hislop (your baby twin) 26.12.09-2.01.10

Dear Claire,
We stayed in the penthouse. We had a lovely holiday this New Year. Queues for ski lifts weren’t bad at all even though it was Christmas break. The three children have progressed well with their skiing. It would be nice to come every year but we’ll have to see if money allows. The penthouse is great – extremely comfortable beds. Maybe the under floor heating should come on later (instead of 6.15 pm) so that we feel the benefit?
Not that keen Austrian bread – bet you miss the blue Warburton’s?!
As my dad says, we miss you in England very much but we can see how happy you are here. Let’s make sure we speak often.
Lots of love from Caroline (your big sister) and Andrew xxx 26.12.09-2.01.10

Dear Auntie Claire,
We had a lovely time in the penthouse! Thank you for doing the jobs and spending your time with us (sometimes skiing). Skiing was really fun because me and Erin could go down steep bits, we also skied top to bottom! (From the top of the mountain and ski down to the bottom!) My favourite lift was the chair lift because if your legs hurt you can sit down.
Lots of love from Lydia xxxx! 26.12.09-2.01.10

Dear Auntie Claire!
I’ve had loads of fun in Austria and I really didn’t want to leave!
I enjoyed skiing again and going top to bottom on the really ste3ep red run! I loved going to the Zirmalm and staying up late on New Year’s Eve when we did the “Royal variety performance”. I’m really disappointed that we have to leave so soon, but you have got to keep the house in order (which you do so well!) I love you sooooo much and I hope we can stay at Haus Hislop again!
Love from Erin xxx England. 26.12.09-2.01.10

Thank you so so much Claire. Thank you firstly for answering all our emails so promptly. Thank you also for a lovely welcome and smooth induction. Thank you for making us feel comfortable and giving us such wonderful views!!! And, thank you for all your tips – where to go for lessons, passes, the seenland card! To eat (Zirmalm – and drink – trying the drunken raspberry’s – wow!). The toboggan run – amazing, and the night ski at Reith followed my mulled wine and life music!!!
So thank you for making our first skiing experience so great.
George and Jackie. England. 16.01.10-23.12.10

Dear Claire,
I think that I first heard about Alpbach over 10 years ago after seeing an article in the travel section of Brisbanes Sunday Mail. I just had to see, Austria’s most beautiful town! After some quick googling it was hard to go past Haus Hislop for location, quality, price and that personal tough. Our getaway from hectic Cairo was everything that I’d hoped for and we will be back in the future. You even busted us on our romantic walks back from Zirmalm! Thanks again for your hospitality, we’ve just had the best time.
Aussies Ang & Juz from Cairo. 23.01.10-30.01.10

Hi Claire, Thanks for yet another fantastic skiing holiday at Haus Hislop. The penthouse is perfect. The slopes have been excellent and the children have progressed so much! And the adults too! The Zirmalm is our number 1 restaurant – awesome as ever!! The hostess is a bonkers as ever! You must never change. A true Yorkshire lass that always makes us feel right at home “tin tin tin”. We won’t be able to watch “Look North” weather again after your amusing tales of Ketchup! Thanks for all your assistance and hard work throughout our stay. We are all so jealous of the life you have created for yourself here – well done! “We will be back.”

Just spent a fantastic week here at Haus Hislop with Claire, our hostess the mostess. I have known Claire now for 6 years and she has never changed – always cheerful and smiley! I can also remember Haus Hislop when it was just a set of plans, so it is really great to see it now and to discover how so many people have enjoyed staying here. It is such a fantastic location with stunning views and great skiing virtually from the door. Anyone who has stayed here in winter, should really consider coming back for the summer cause the mountains are breath taking.
Claire, once again, thanks for a fantastic week. We will of course be back.
Love you lots, see ya soon!
Trev, Anna, Lee, Fim and Jane. 7.02.10

Our first visit to Austria and our first skiing trip! We certainly picked the best village, the best slopes and of course the best “Haus”. Many thanks Claire for making us so welcome. As fellow “Yorkshire” folk you made us feel very special and could not do enough for us, booking taxis, shopping – nothing was too much trouble. You have a very special place here and we hope to return very soon! We will never forget our first skiing holiday – everything was perfect – I bet you even arranged the sunshine! Take care Claire – make sure you get your eight hours sleep! On your advice we will also visit Keighley! (think that’s spelt wrong!)
Many thanks for everything.

I have had the most memorable and fantastic experience and time here. This is the second year I have stayed here and all I can say is this is one of the most lovely places to stay. Alpbach again 2010
5 women & Children and 5 old men.
Haus Hislop is ours for the week – hurrah!
we’ve got food and beer and wine for the bar.

Ski admin is new and the ultimate faff,
Schlepping kids to the school with their stuff – not a laugh.
The instructors are great and easy on the eye
young Mikey is there to help the girls when they cry.

Claire is a star at sorting us out,
washing and admin and heavering about.
The weather’s been great – if a bit cold,
and the skiing has been fast and hectic and bold.

While Garvin was enjoying “skiing mit Kinder”,
we were busy peeking in Alex and Hayleys winder.
Not wanting to disturb their “afternoon sleep”,
the other adults were knackered on the floor in a heap.

Food worked well with a variety of cooks,
Julie’s beef tagine was the best in the book.
We had to take a quick course before taking the bins,
the recycling requires a degree – what a head spin.

Poor Scarlett and Emma was struck down with the bug,
a day off skiing in the apartment all snug.
Whilst Jenny took Claire’s old battered car every lunch,
To pick up the kids - in the bag – what a crunch!

Christian Mr. modesty showed Abi red 8,
but strop o’clock stroke – it was all too late.
Then Jenny tried boarding – ended up on the floor,
resulting in a broken arm and a visit to the doctor.

Alley had had her five figs a day,
but she really began to sway.
Dancing with Grant to the Austrian music,
eventually made her feel just a bit sick!

So thank you to Claire for another fab trip,
well done to you – three cheers – hip hip.
I’m sure we’ll be back for more fun on the slopes,
have fun Claire and see you soon I hope!!!

Hi Claire,
I have had the time of my life and thank you for having me. I have learned to ski really well. I am sorry I couldn’t fit those worlds in. Next year of next time we come skiing I was going to learn to snowboard but after what happened to Jenny I’d rather not. Next time we come skiing if I get the choice I will choose to come here.
Best wishes! James, age 10

Hi Claire,
Well, I’m worn out before I even start! We have had an amazing time here. Haus Hislop is quite simply outstanding, you are an excellent hostess and have taken care of every detail (including daily vodka supply)!
Haus Hislop is in a perfect spot, so near to the ski slopes and we will definitely be recommending it to everyone. Thank you for showing us how to party Alpbach style. We won’t be forgetting band night in the Postalm in a hurry! Hope all your hard work continues to pay off and you have all the success you dreamed of. Once again, thanks so much for everything!

Started all in the penthouse (12 adults + 2 month old baby) 1 pair of crutches came with us from England – went back with 2 pairs of crutches!! And Claire was so accommodating we ended up in flat 2, and flat 3 as well! We have had a wonderful time here, blue skies when we arrived, and a great gentle introduction to skiing (except poor Mike who tore his ligaments on the first day). Snow arrived on the first day and bestowed a late winter wonderland over the valley – so we saw it in spring and winter attire. The penthouse and flats are beautiful. Claire has been a wonderful hostess and very helpful, but she misses ”Corrie” so much. Lots of love and see you soon, in Alpbach or Haworth.
